Basil Grapefruit Ginger Mocktail

Inspired by this recipe

Basil.  Grapefruit.  Ginger ale.  Ice.

Maybe a splash of white wine if you're feeling frisky.

That's it!  This mocktail easy, simple, and delicious!  The flavors make it perfect for summer.  Best of all, it can refresh folks who are choosing not to imbibe alcohol (ie: my mother, mommas-to-be, etc...) AND it can refresh folks who shamelessly add wine to any type of container (uh--ME).

Make it ahead of time, because the longer the basil and grapefruit gets to be one with the ginger ale, the more delightful it becomes.

Also, if you click on over to the original recipe I was inspired by, you'll see that a basil-infused simple syrup was used.  I found this to be puh-lenty sweet enough without adding more sugar, so I decided to forgo the syrup.  Personal choice, though our guests from a few weeks ago agreed with the sans-sugar decision.  They loved it!  You will, too.

Anyhow, here's the secret!

You'll need:

  • Large beverage container (Mine holds a little over 2 gallons and this fit perfectly into it)
  • 2 2-liter bottles of ginger ale
  • 4 grapefruit
  • 1 handful fresh basil (equivalent to 1 package of the fresh stuff)
  • Ice (as much as your beverage dispenser requires)
Pour the ginger ale into the beverage dispenser, and add as much ice as is needed.  Add in the juice of two of the grapefruits (being sure to strain for seeds), and slice and add in the remaining two for garnish.  Wash the basil well, and add in small sprigs and leaves.

Allow to sit for at least 2 hours.

Optional:  Serve with chilled white wine (1/2 glass mocktail, 1/2 glass wine).

Enjoy!  I did.  *Hic*
