Chiefs Tailgating Photo Diary (Better Late Than Never!)

For the record, I am, have always been, and will forevermore remain to be a Green Bay Packers fan.  That being said, Mr. Pihl is, has always been, and will forevermore remain to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan.

We're all clear on that now, right?  Okay, awesome.

Being that Kansas City is a wee bit closer to central Kansas than Green Bay is (obviously), we decided to go to the Chiefs season opener at the beginning of September.  The game itself was not the most spectacular display of football in the world, but the pre-game tailgate extravaganza was highly entertaining.

Don't believe me?  Check these out.

Oh - and by the way... I ended up with some unsightly sensor dust inside my camera which resulted in the ghostly gray spec you see in the upper-right corner of nearly every photo.  Great way to start out an amateur photography hobby, right?!  My apologies.

Fans toss a football in the soon-to-be-filled parking spaces.  Can you find the ball?

Tent after tent, game after game, grill after grill.

There's nothing like the smoky haze of charcoal and burnt food to start your football season!

Howdy!

Again with more of this?  Sorry!

We started walking around a bit and spotted this beast.

And by "beast" I mean hardcore fan food station, of course.

Fans of the opposing team claimed a big chunk of territory right in front of my in-law's vehicle.

But they sure knew how to bring a game-day spread.

In case you doubt how packed the parking lot becomes, let this serve as a visual aid.

It was so packed that this kid had to find refuge atop an SUV!

Oh wait - he's cool.  Just playing!

Fun fact?  there was a nail in the tire of my in-law's SUV.  Remember how tires plus my in-laws equals havoc?

Never fear, though.  Beer-mosas are known to cure impaled tires.

Or at least make you not care quite so much!

After our beer-mosa we decided to trek around a little more before heading into the stadium.

Where's Waldo???  Har har.

This was the envy of my husband.

More grilling.

More games.

More team pride.

More - WAIT.  WHAT???

I don't even know.

Ahem.  More flags.

And more homemade blenders.

That's right!  That there silvery thang is a dagummned blender.  That's what I said!

All in all, it we had a blast.
Though our vehicle had nowhere near as much spirit as that thing up there.
