Colorado Weekend, Part 1

Originally posted on Instagram

Well, we're back.

On Friday I mentioned that we had a flat tire at 1:45 AM in the middle of nowhere while on our journey to our big Colorado weekend.  Remember that?  I can't forget it.

We're home now.

We're (finally) home after a planned eight hour trip suddenly turned into a sixteen hour trip with TWO MORE blown out tires, and one bulging, vibrating tire.  Colorado didn't want to see us go so it was sure to provide additional eight hours of vehicle fun.

On the bright side, my husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law are now qualified to run an RV pit crew in your next rural olympics.

Here's blowout #1 of the trip home (#2 in total for the weekend):

Bad news, man.

But the guys pulled together and fixed her up!

I was serious about that whole RV pit crew thing.

My nephew wanted to help, as well.

Ironically, my father-in-law's shirt reads "It gets worse before it gets better."  It was from our white water rafting trip, but I think it was an appropriate slogan for our journey home.

Later on the journey home (during our third tire crisis stop) my ultra-adorable nephew decided to take matters into his own hands.

But moving onto the trip...

The trip itself was wonderful.  Colorado is beautiful and has so many fun activities to offer!

We focused on riding ATVs through beautiful mountain scenery, eating, white water rafting, eating, riding ATVs through different beautiful mountain scenery, and eating some more.

My kind of trip, maynard.

I regret that I neglected to get any photos of us white water rafting, but seeing as how my iPhone is NOT waterproof, I think I made a wise decision in leaving it in the vehicle during the experience.

We went through River Runners in Buena Vista, and it was AWESOME.  An retired Navy veteran was our rafting guide and the dude was PRO.  And a total flirt in the funniest way.

Dan.  You were the MAN.

Anywhoodle.

We took a LOT of photos in the four days we were there, and I'll post more tomorrow.  For now, here's a few.

Our cabin was seriously cute, and I totally neglected taking a photo of the outside of it.  I'm an airhead.
But I did manage to get a few shots of the inside!  These really don't do this place justice, though.  The cabin is beautiful and charming in the best way.  I wanted to stay there forever, but Mr. Pihl didn't think the owners would appreciate having a squatter on their property.  I suppose he was right.

The entire cabin was decorated with a lodge feel to it, and it was lovely.

Le kitchen.

My in-laws got the master bedroom.  I'm obsessed with the furniture!

And the neatest snow shoe display at the entry.

There was a large loft area upstairs with two sofa sleepers.

We had the bear-themed room.  Obviously.

More of our bedroom.  Check out the skis in the corner!

Bear hugs.  Any time, any bear.  Ha!
Lastly, here's the view from the front of the cabin:

Isn't that a pretty valley?

It's hard to see, but there were streams, livestock, and trees peppering the beautiful meadow.

Amazing.

Speaking of livestock, we had a livestock escort one of the days we decided to head to the hills to ride our ATVs.

The side of the road was FULL of cows all trotting in the same direction.

By the way, do cows trot?  Is that the correct terminology?  If you know, I'd love to hear from ya in the comments.  Educate this city girl.

Anyhow, I finally understand the phrase "till' the cows come home," because those cows were definitely headed home that evening.

Speaking of home...  Thanks for stopping by!

More of our Colorado fun will be on the blog tomorrow!
